SJ Berwin has hired rated mediator, Philip Howell-Richardson, from Morgan Cole to boost its alternative dispute resolution (ADR) practice.

SJ Berwin has hired rated mediator, Philip Howell-Richardson, head of Morgan Cole‘s alternative dispute resolution (ADR) practice.

Following Howell-Richardson’s departure Morgan Cole will have just 51 partners compared with the 78 it had at the end of the 2002 financial year, a 35 per cent drop in just three years.

Howell-Richardson joins SJ Berwin as a consultant in August, and will work alongside ADR team leader David Shapiro. At the same time, SJ Berwin senior partner David Harrel is joining the ADR department, having recently gained accreditation as a mediator.

Howell-Richardson’s mediation experience spans 15 years. He mediates about 50 cases each year. He covers a range of practice areas, and has also been involved in class actions and international disputes.

Shapiro is reducing the number of cases he handles to 10 a year, and is due to concentrate on teaching in the future.
