Jones Day has promoted a corporate partner to head up its Frankfurt office.
Juergen Reemers is replacing incumbent Karl Herold who is stepping down after 13 years in the post.
Commenting on his promotion, Reemers said: “The German M&A market has been slow in the past couple of years so it’s certainly a challenging time to take up the position.”
Reemers, who is in his early forties, added that his appointment is part of a move to give more management responsibilities to a younger generation of lawyers.
Reemers will take over the role on 1 April but will continue to fee-earn.
The corporate partner was awarded the role after the firm underwent a consultation as opposed to a formal voting process. It is understood that as partner-in-charge of the office there is no fixed term, a common feature across the firm.
Herold will continue with his role on the US firm’s global advisory committee.
