Common law set 9 Gough Square has ramped up its capabilities with four new tenants after losing nine family practitioners earlier this year.
Claire Harden, Gareth Munday and James Thacker, all of 3 Temple Gardens, have joined the set’s crime, fraud and regulatory groups, while Emma-Jane Mahood of St Philips will practise mainly family law.
The three joining crime, fraud and regulatory are all on the Attorney General’s unified prosecution panel, and have recently been joined there by five other barristers from 9 Gough Square, including former chair of the Young Barristers’ Committee Tom Little.9 Gough Square chief executive John Kerr told The Lawyer: “All four barristers joined chambers because 9 Gough Square’s common law ethos provides more flexibility for broader practice development than specialist sets.
“This is a particularly important factor for crime and family practitioners having to deal with the consequences of the Carter report and the Legal Services Act.”
In September, 9 Gough Square saw its family practice drop from 21 barristers to 12 after Alex Verdan QC led practitioners working on law related to children to 4 Paper Buildings.
Mahood is the first tenant to join 9 Gough Square’s family team since the losses.
