2Birds hires Asia aviation head from Virgin Atlantic

Bird & Bird has appointed former Virgin Atlantic counsel Leo Fattorini as a partner and head of its Asia aviation practice.

Fattorini, who has over 10 years of experience in the aviation industry, has relocated from London to Singapore for the role. He was most recently legal counsel with Virgin Atlantic and was previously an associate in the aircraft finance team at DLA Piper’s London office.

His practice focuses on all legal issues airlines must deal with and he has a background in acting for lessors and financiers. In term of aviation finance, he has advised on aircraft financing and leasing, negotiating sale and purchase agreements and all forms of aircraft commercial agreements.

Fattorini’s appointment comes following another senior level hire in the firm’s international aviation group in London. In January, Bird & Bird hired veteran aviation partner Brett Hailey from the London office of SNR Denton. The pair will work closely with the firm’s co-head of international aviation Paul Briggs to drive the firm’s aircraft finance offering, specifically in Asia.

“Over recent years we’ve developed a broad aviation practice… acting for some of the major airlines in the region and a number of other industry parties,” said Bird & Bird Singapore head Alban Kang in a statement.

“Asia’s an incredibly buoyant market and the future of its aviation industry is bright. Singapore’s objective to become a regional aviation hub makes it an ideal location from which to grow our aviation practice,” said Fattorini.

Following Fattorini’s appointment, Bird & Bird’s Asia aviation team has 10 partners, one consultant, one senior consultant and five associates.
