2 Temple Gardens boosts pupillage earnings to £47k

Commercial and civil set 2 Temple Gardens (2TG) has upped its pupillage award by £2,000 for the October 2008 intake, making it one of the highest paying chambers for new barristers.

Pupils receive a grant of £36,000 and guaranteed earnings of £11,000.

Charles Dougherty, member of the pupillage committee, said: “Although we guarantee £11,000, pupils tend to earn significantly more over six months. I wish it had been like this when I was a pupil.”

2TG offers two pupillage awards a year and receives around 250 applications. The chambers changed its pupillage policy four years ago, reducing the number of pupils from five to two and increasing the award.

Dougherty said: “Pupillage is one of the areas that people don’t want to cut corners on – it’s a system that works.”
