Adidas group IP general counsel Tim Behean has moved to a new role in private practice as a director for IP boutique Sipara.
Behean spent 17 years at Adidas, most recently heading up the company’s IP group. Before that role, he was previously a solicitor at Slaughter and May for 11 years.
Behean has not been replaced at Adidas Group, and it is understood that a review of the company’s in-house team has seen his workload taken on by other members of the team, rather than by a new in-house lawyer.
In his new role as director at Sipara, which is the equivalent to being a partner, Behean will answer to CEO and founder Robert Furneaux.
This is the most prominent hire yet for the IP specialist firm, which was founded four years ago by three lawyers from Rouse’s Oxford brands practice (13 December 2010). Behean will join the three founders as the firm’s fourth director.
