XXIV falls prey to Wilberforce recruitment drive

Commercial and chancery set Wilberforce Chambers has raided XXIV Old Buildings for the second time in two months.

The set has taken on Lawrence Cohen QC, who took silk in 1993, in a bid to ramp up its cross-border and international work.

As revealed by The Lawyer (12 November 2007), the chambers’ strategy to strengthen its offshore practice led to the recruitment of XXIV barrister Clare Stanley.

Wilberforce head of chambers Jules Sher QC said: “[Cohen’s] arrival highlights our commercial strength and our commitment to capitalise on the cross-border opportunities flowing from an increasingly global marketplace.”

Cohen added that he supports Wilberforce’s strategy, explaining that offshore expertise will play a key role in any future success.

“Multinational businesses today need and value advisers with strong cross-jurisdiction knowledge and experience as they compete worldwide,” said Cohen.
