Benchmark
Wright Hassall reported a small increase in turnover for 2011–12, from £13m to £13.3m, with net profit standing still at £2.7m. The firm attributed the performance to overall growth in its core practice areas, particularly those that were most hit by the recession, notably commercial property, which had dropped by 20 per cent at the start of the crisis, and private client.
Lawyer headcount also remained static, with the firm recording 35 partners (15 equity) and 82 qualified lawyers in 2011–12. The launch of a new debt recovery offering in April 2011, however, saw the firm’s non-lawyer headcount pick up, with total staff numbers reaching 231.
In September 2012 the firm scored a coup when it was appointed to the second tier of Eon's property panel. It also retained its spot on the National Farmers Union’s external roster of legal advisers.
The Leamington Spa firm said it has attracted a number of large corporate clients from London, which has had a beneficial impact on the firm’s performance. Clients include TUI Travel and Cap Gemini UK.
