WRAGGE & Co has signed a partnership contract with Buckinghamshire County Council which will see the two teams working together.
The three-year agreement gives the Buckinghamshire in-house team access to the resources of the law firm to work together on training, technology and system development.
It is the first deal of its kind to be the result of competitive tendering. Similar agreements exist between Nabarro Nathanson and the London borough of Lewisham, and between Eversheds and Lancashire and Nottinghamshire County Councils.
But this arrangement is the closest partnership yet, says Wragges, covering the entire range of local authority legal services except for child and mental health care.
Peter Keith-Lucas, local government partner at Wragges who signed the deal with Buckingham's head of legal Janet Relfe, says: "The council in-house team has a good range of specific local government skills but not the range of skills and resources that we can offer."
