Wragges sets up unit to track down web posters

Wragge & Co has established a new team that will seek to trace people posting comments online.

The four-person group hopes to cooperate with internet service providers to remove information deemed confidential or defamatory and find those responsible for posting it.

Disputes associate Adam Fisher, who is running the venture alongside IT litigation director Patrick Arben, argued that the move was not intended to restrict freedom of speech.

“There’s a desire [among clients] to monitor information that’s been unlawfully distributed,” he said. “This is less about restricting freedom of speech and more about where confidential data has gone missing.”
