White & Case has recruited Neil Upton, head of utilities and project financing at Wragge & Co
Upton said his clients needed a firm with greater project finance and energy expertise than Wragges could offer. His clients include Powergen, Severn Trent and British Airways.
Upton commented: "Wragges is a good firm but it wasn't really right for the next stage of my career."
A spokesperson at Wragges said: "Neil made a great contribution to building up Wragge & Co's national energy practice."
At Wragges, Upton hired Derek Goodban from National Grid and Beverley Sullivan from British Energy in 2001.
Philip Stopford, White & Case's head of London project finance, said: "Neil's experience of projects and energy regulatory work - particularly in the domestic market - will be of particular benefit to us when used in conjunction with our emerging markets practice."
