Wragge & Co is to launch in Dubai after expanding its relationship with local lawyer Mohamed Al Mehairi with whom it launched in Abu Dhabi last year.
The firm’s expansion in the UAE ollows the December launch in Abu Dhabi (2 December 2010).
Wragge & Co senior partner Quentin Poole said: “Our strategy is to increase the proportion of revenue from international work, through cross-border instructions led out of the UK and income from overseas offices.”
At the latest year end international work accounted for 40 per cent of the firm’s £112m turnover - the equivalent of £44.8m (6 July 2011). This is up from 20 per cent or £20.7m at the 2008-09 year end, when overall turnover stood at £103.4m.
Wragge & Co Legal Consultants was launched in December 2010 in partnership with Mehairi and is jointly run by managing partner Jane Pittaway and senior partner Mehairi. The duo will also take responsibility for the Dubai office.
There will be no lateral hires to the office with lawyers in Abu Dhabi being asked to split their time across the region.
Mehairi said: “Dubai is an important and ambitious global commercial centre and our clients and targets want us to have a presence there.”
