Wragges adds pensions to London capability

Wragge & Co is adding yet another practice area to its growing London presence, with the addition of a pensions specialist.

The Birmingham heavyweight has hired Linklaters managing associate Jason Coates as a partner to launch a full-time pensions team out of its London office.

Coates will drive forward the firm’s 24-strong pensions team, which has set its sights on a UK top five position. Wragges plans to build on its national platform and gain market share in schemes worth over £100m concentrated in the City and the South East. By 2008 Wragges plans to have 34 pensions lawyers in total, with 25 in Birmingham and nine in London.

Commenting on the move, Wragges senior partner Quentin Poole said: “Pensions in London has always been on the cards and looked increasingly likely as soon as employment made the move.”

On 1 November Coates will become the sixth partner in Wragges’ pensions team.

Wragges already has intellectual property, real estate, employment and private equity capabilities in London.
