The World Bank is to help fund a scheme to boost the efficiency and fairness of the Philippines’ judicial system.

The World Bank is funding a $21.9m (£13.7m) loan to help finance the Filipino Supreme Court’s judicial reform programme. The bank said that the project is aimed at improving a judiciary that has suffered from caseload “delays, corruption, weak administrative structures, outdated technology and deficient facilities, and underdeveloped human resources”.

Robert Vance Pulley, the Philippines director at the World Bank, said: “By improving judicial performance, including court access and the timeliness of court decisions, this project will lead to a better business climate where the firms, investors, workers and consumers all benefit.”
