What time do you usually leave the office?Between 7pm and 8pm.
What do you do at weekends?I’m a season ticket holder at various school playing fields and I play golf when the garden allows.
What’s your favourite restaurant?Oloroso in Edinburgh.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?A modern languages teacher – according to my wife, many children owe a great debt to the law faculty that accepted me.
Who was your mentor or role model?My housemaster at school, who advised us all to push ourselves rather than easily achieving less challenging objectives.
What’s the best thing about your job?People. Meeting and interacting with talented, interesting people internally and externally.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?Getting people to recognise that the solution to most of their problems lies with themselves.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?On a few occasions, taking the ‘soft option’ – it’s never the right decision and it only comes back to bite you.
What car(s) do you drive?BMW 3 Series and an old Mercedes Cabriolet for fun and sun.
What book are you currently reading?The Full Monty, a biography of Field Marshall Montgomery.
What’s on your CD player at the moment?Avril Lavigne.
What’s your favourite children’s book?Anything in the Brer Rabbit series.
