What was your first-ever job?

Checking the cemetery records at the local synagogue. Dull. The goings-on between the staff were far more entertaining.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

Anywhere but my room. 

What’s your favourite restaurant?

In my fantasy life – L’Arpege in Paris. In real life, the original Rasa in Stoke Newington.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?

Something at the BBC, or in the food industry. I’m inching towards the latter with my food blog.

What’s your favourite film?

Depending on my mood, Raging Bull or Distant Voices, Still Lives.

What was the first record you ever bought?

My Ding-a-Ling by Chuck Berry.

Who’s your hero and why?

I  aspire to the kindness of my paternal grandmother and am indebted to my history teacher Dr Addis for teaching me how to structure an essay.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?

Believing what I was told by senior management, staying too long in one place and overperforming through lack of confidence.  I learned not to care so much about what other people think.

What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?

If I’d wanted exciting I wouldn’t have been a property lawyer, although I did quite enjoy doing a £47m multi-let purchase with lots of corporate structuring in three days in January, leading a team of 23. That woke me up after Xmas.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?

All of them – we don’t do off-site partner conferences at Brecher.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you?

It would be Caroline Quentin I expect, sadly.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Any old dictator/despot. I wouldn’t be able to keep my mouth shut and they’d probably end up killing me.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)

I often make chocolate brownies for the firm, to ease the pain of Monday mornings; I once represented this country in a maths competition; I keep chickens and distribute the eggs to clients.
