What was your first-ever job?
Looking after old soldiers at the Royal Star and Garter Home in Richmond.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Spending a day on the roof of Harrow Park public toilets to check the view the police must have had of my client. It was quite an eye-opener.
Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
The finance department.
What time do you usually leave the office?
Normally just in time to relieve our nanny.
What do you do at the weekend?
Argue with my two sons about why they don’t need Lynx bodyspray and why they can’t watch Shaun of the Dead.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
The River Café just over the other side of the Thames.
What’s your favourite film?
The Third Man. My late aunt had a three-second part as the switchboard operator. It’s a classic.
What was the first record you ever bought?
One of those ‘Hot Hits’ compilations with Billy Don’t be a Hero on it.
Who’s your hero and why?
Anyone who’s survived the Holocaust and hasn’t displayed similar racist tendencies to others.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Helping clients at their most vulnerable.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Not saying no to accepting clients’ cases that have already been round several firms of solicitors. There’s often a reason why.
What car do you drive?
A Citroen C4 Picasso.
I can just about see over the wheel.
What book are you reading?
One Day by David Nicholls.
What’s your favourite children’s book?
When Mum Turned into a Monster by Joanna Harrison.
What’s the most exciting case you’ve worked on and why?
The claim for the honey-trap officer Lizzie James, who was involved in the Colin Stagg investigation. She was a delightful and dedicated police officer whose life had been blighted by the flawed decisions made by her seniors. The amount of press interest in this story was relentless.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take?
An endless supply of romcoms to watch and a jug of Pimms.
What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
Luckily personal injury work doesn’t involve all-night sessions, but I’ve had many a sleepless night worrying about work.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)
I was once likened to Sandra Bullock by a famous English film director; I met my husband at the firm’s Christmas party; I won Miss Richmond in 1984.
