What was your first-ever job?
A cook at a residential home in Ilkley, I think. It was either that or at the famous Bettys tea rooms.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Appearing in Whitehaven County Court. It took me hours to get there and my brief fee barely covered the cost of the fuel.
What time do you usually leave the office?
I work from home quite a lot when I’m not in court, although when I’m in I’m usually away from my desk by about 7pm.
What do you do at weekends?
Run for miles and miles. At the moment, I’m training for the Nokia Scotland Coast to Coast race in September.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Daphne’s in Barbados.
If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?
What’s your favourite film?
What was the first record you ever bought?
Notorious by Duran Duran.
Who’s your hero and why?
Wilma Rudolph. After suffering from polio as a child she went on to become the first woman to win three gold medals in the track and field competition at a single Olympic Games.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Caring about what my competitors are up to. I’ve learnt to run my own race.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Keeping all the balls in the air at the same time.
What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?
I’m currently dealing with a banking case in the Turks & Caicos islands in the Caribbean. If it doesn’t settle I’m going to go out there for the trial later this year.
What’s your favourite book?
The Genie in your Genes by Dawson Church.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
The Bee Gees – they might start singing.
