What was your first-ever job?
I was seven years old and bought bulk stationery in a shop then resold it to kids in my class.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Staffing the clerks’ room for an afternoon when they had their Christmas lunch. I’ve not known pressure like it since.
What time do you usually leave the office?
I start early - normally 4am - and almost always leave chambers by 5.30pm for time with my children before they go to bed.
What do you do at weekends?
Sleep. Work. Play.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley.A huge treat.
If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?
An entrepreneur or a talk radio presenter.
What’s your favourite film?
The Green Mile.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Shaddapa You Face by Joe Dolce.
Who’s your hero and why?
Richard Fish from Ally McBeal. No lawyer should be that funny. In the real world, probably Steve Jobs.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Seeing clients waste money because of the ’principle’. Which usually disappears when a cheap settlement becomes available.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn?
Going for the jugular in court and enjoying it. I know it’s wrong, but I can’t resist.
What’s your favourite book?
The BabyBarista series by my good friend Tim Kevan and, for a standalone book, The Charm School by Nelson De Mille.
What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?
Representing Abbie Gibson, the Beckhams’ nanny who blew the whistle on David’s (alleged) affair with Rebecca Loos.
What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
Sadly, I’ve never had the chance to go to one, and chambers meetings tend to be held within chambers.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)
I’ve cross-examined Wolf from Gladiators; I was nearly kidnapped as a child; I represented the UK at the under-18 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
