Being humiliated by a court registrar – as they were then called – when I was literally unable to “open my case” because I had temporarily forgotten the combination number of my briefcase.

The 25th, overlooking the Palm in Dubai, on the 25th floor of the Habtoor Grand Hotel.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?
I always wanted to be a pop star, but was somewhat restricted due to a lack of talent.

Contributing to the development of the firm and working with a great team.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Making tough and sometimes unpopular decisions.

Going to the House of Lords and winning the civil case that followed. The case brought about fundamental changes to the legal aid system that prevented corporate entities from assigning actions to impecunious litigants who were financially eligible for legal aid.

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
I once worked a whole weekend preparing numerous very complex and lengthy documents for a High Court case.

Richard Gere. I like his style. He looks good, is always very calm, but also comes across as very assertive.

Alistair Darling – I just hate those eyebrows! Not to mention his abysmal performance as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
