What was your first-ever job?

Paper boy.

What was your worst experience as a trainee?

As a trainee chartered surveyor my worst experience and best experience was discovering I didn’t actually want to be a surveyor.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

The post room.

What time do you usually leave the office?

7.00pm.

What do you do at weekends?

Try to keep fit, walk dogs, watch rugby and I’ve just resurrected a long-dead cricket career – and I’m still rubbish.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

Piccolino in Bristol. Closest to the office and great Italian food.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?

I’m not a lawyer and am thankful for small mercies.

What’s your favourite film?

Saving Private Ryan.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Promises by The Buzzcocks.

Who’s your hero and why?

Sir Winston Churchill. A leader, a politician, a soldier, a writer, a wit.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The people I work with.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

The people I work with.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?

Becoming a chartered surveyor. I like people and businesses more than buildings.

What car do you drive?

I change it regularly, so it probably means I have some form of car-buying OCD.

What book are you currently reading?

Defiance by Nechama Tec. I’m also reading a book on consumer behaviour.

What’s your favourite children’s book?

I was a big Biggles fan, owning more than 30 Biggles titles.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take?

A boat and a navigator.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?

I joined the firm in 2006, so I haven’t actually attended that many. I always thought partner conferences were held in exotic, far-flung places, not Bristol. But hey, who could resist the lure of the footballing mecca of Ashton Gate?

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?

10 minutes.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?

John Wayne… the hell he would.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

My daughter, mother and mother-in-law – none of them ever stop talking.

Tell us two truths and one myth about yourself (in any order)

In previous firms people told me I should be a lawyer. I am an accountant. I am rubbish at cricket.
