What was your first job?
Working at the cheese factory in Nantwich (Cheshire) for the Milk Marketing Board.

What was your worst experience as a trainee?
At Cardiff County Court when Judge Evans was sitting. He refused to hear me because of my lack of gown and tabs.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
The client entertaining database.

What time do you usually leave the office?
Between 7 and 7.30pm.

What do you do at weekends?
Relax with my five children and try to fit in a game of squash.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
The Warehouse in Southport.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?
I was a really keen rugby union player. I always dreamt of playing internationally for Wales.

Who was your mentor or role model?
Peter Jones, now a partner at Eversheds in Cardiff, who was massively supportive and helpful during my training contract.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The variety of work, without a doubt.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Giving bad news – it’s never easy.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
As a trainee asking how much a barrister wanted to be paid for a brief. Never again.

What car do you drive?
XK8 Convertible.

What book are you currently reading?
David Beckham’s autobiography.

What’s on your CD player at the moment?
Norah Jones.

What’s your favourite children’s book?
Harry Potter.
