Being shouted at by a partner at another firm.

My secretary.

What time do you usually leave the office?

Around 7 to 7.30pm.

What do you do at weekends?

Explore London or go to Catalonia.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

Hutong in Hong Kong.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?

A diplomat.

What’s your favourite film?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Kylie Minogue’s first album, Kylie.  

Who’s your hero?

Any great inventor or engineer.

What’s the best thing about your job?

No two libel cases are the same.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

Never being able to switch off.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?

I once drove off with a client’s keys – more haste, less speed.

What car do you drive?

I don’t have a car.

What book are you reading?

The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill.

What’s your favourite children’s book?

Charlotte’s Web by EB White.

What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on?

We worked for a local councillor who had been falsely accused of shoplifting. The allegations were published in banners trailed behind the defendant’s private aircraft.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what luxury item would you take?

A solar-powered laptop.  

What’s the worst partner conference you’ve attended and why?

I’ve only been to one.  

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?

Probably no more than 18 hours.

If a movie was being made about your life, who would play you?

Someone rich – it’s unlikely to be a box-office smash.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

An evangelical American preacher.

I’m addicted to Maltesers; when visiting a volcano off Java it erupted; I auditioned for The X Factor.
