Singapore firm WongPartnership has extended its South-East Asia footprint by sealing a strategic alliance with Indonesian firm Makes & Partners.
The move comes just weeks after the firm entered Myanmar with a June office launch (23 June 2014). WongPartnership is now present in four of the countries that make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), having formed a strategic alliance with Malaysian boutique Foong & Partners last year (12 November 2013).
Makes & Partners, which is headed by Yozua Makes, focuses on corporate and banking matters.
WongPartnership senior partner Alvin Yeo said the alliance had come about because his firm was acting on an increasing number of cross-border deals in Indonesia and had worked alongside Makes & Partners on a number of occasions.
“Our lawyers have worked alongside Makes & Partners on transactions, including Aberdeen Asset Management Asia’s proposed acquisition of a stake in PT NISP Asset Management. We found a shared ethos of delivering unstinting high quality service to our clients,” said Yeo.
“Our alliance with Makes & Partners will enable us to leverage on their Indonesian law capability to serve our clients in the ASEAN region, whilst allowing their clients access to our regional expertise in China, the Middle East and the rest of ASEAN.”
