THE FOLLOW-UP to last year's controversial 'Woman Lawyer' event promises to go much further in promoting the position of women in the legal profession.This year's conference, 'Woman Lawyer II' which takes place on 20 April, hosts a range of leading barristers and solicitors who are directly involved in the equality debate.Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission Kamlesh Bahl will discuss the new Equality Code for the Bar and the anti-discrimination measures proposed by the Law Society at the event.Anne Gillian, partner at Denton Hall, will explain her firm's cost benefit analysis of good equal opportunities practice.In addition, Christopher Docksey, a member of the European Commission Legal Service, will provide an analysis of the European impact on UK equal opportunities practice.Other speakers include Cherie Booth QC, Peter Goldsmith QC and president of the Law Society Martin Mears.Sexual harassment allegations made by Law Society council member Eileen Pembridge at last year's conference forced presidential candidate John Young to withdraw from the Law Society elections.
