I was disappointed to read the macho language of Virginia Glastonbury. She may be married to the firm, but for many women solicitors, their first priority is their children. Law firms and companies seem to have an inflexible policy demonstrated by Ms Glastonbury who states that women "just have to be available". I would be interested to learn how many of Denton's women solicitors stay on after they have had a family?
As a new mum and part-time worker, my company has enabled me to have a career and be a mother, but many of my friends have been forced to resign precisely because of attitudes like this. Surely it is time for the women at the top to support and help the women (and mothers) on the way up.
