City practice Withers has awarded a £1 million IT support contract to Norwel Computer Services. The company offers back and front office solutions. Back office solutions comprise accounting and computer-aided billing, credit control and the marketing database. This is integrated with a front office automation network to provide secretaries and fee earners with PC desktop products, including on-line time recording, automated billing EIS (executive information system), as well as word processing, document management, email and spreadsheets.

Booths buys Axxia
Booth & Co, the country's largest single law firm outside London, has placed a £400,000 order with IT supplier Axxia Systems. The firm has bought Axxia's Arista practice management system which includes integrated billing and accounting, and fee earner desktop and marketing modules. The firm plans to install a PC on the desktop of each of its 237 fee earners in a bid to encourage the use of Arista.
