Chicagos Winston & Strawn has finally made the leap into London after taking on two partners from Morgan Lewis & Bockius to open a local office. As predicted by The Lawyer (October 21, 2002), the firms UK base will focus on corporate and transactional work. US-qualified partner Thomas Benz has experience in securities, while UK-qualified partner Zoe Ashcroft hails from a business transactional background. According to Peter Wallace, head of Morgan Lewiss London office and a partner in the business transaction department, Benz and Ashcroft left the firm yesterday (27 May). He said: "We have parted on excellent terms. We value the many contributions that both have made to the firm over the years and we wish them every success in the future." Benz is parting company with the firm after 16 years and Ashcroft was with Morgan Lewis for nine years. The London office which The Lawyer reported was going to open around the end of last year will give the Chicago firm its third European base, adding to Geneva and Paris.
