Window blessing

The nation was treated to the Queen’s Speech on Christmas afternoon, and in a similar spirit of ringing out the old and bringing in the new, Allen & Overy (A&O) managing partner David Morley penned a festive missive on the firm’s website over the Christmas break.

It laid out several areas of interest for 2007, including France, Germany, Russia, Dubai, China and India – as Morley himself insisted to The Lawyer two weeks before.

Of course, most A&O employees are settling into their new building in Bishopsgate. On a recent tour of the glass behemoth there was plenty of opportunity to appreciate the location’s charms. Yes, there are plenty of top-notch restaurants on hand should A&O’s minions tire of the appeal of the onsite – and very blue – cafeteria; true, the Norman Foster-designed building overlooks Spitalfields Market. But most interestingly, A&O had the nous to get a building with a perfect aspect onto the windows of Royal Bank of Scotland and ABN Amro, both of which are clients.

You see? No need to move to Canary Wharf to spy on clients.
