For a firm with such a fusty reputation, there’s a lot going on at Burges Salmon.
A few weeks ago, new managing partner Chris Jackson came in and promptly overhauled the Bristol firm’s ruling committee (see story).
Now, his predecessor Guy Stobart, who led the firm for 13 years, has jumped ship to join London insurance outfit Kennedys as chief exec (see story).
It’s a veritable whirlwind of activity for a firm that likes to think of itself as the Slaughter and May of the West - safe, steady and frankly rather dull.
Given the pace of change under Jackson, it should surprise no one that Stobart, one of the old guard at Burges Salmon, has done the off.
Especially as there was no place for him on either of the new management committees set up by Jackson in June.
But it’s a canny piece of business for Kennedys. Former colleagues pay tribute to Stobart’s “robust” management style, which has left Burges Salmon in impressive financial health.
He could be just the steady hand needed to oversee Kennedys’ ambitious expansion plans.
