A leading technology partner at Silicon Valley's largest law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati has been poached by New York giantsDavis Polk & Wardwell.
Davis Polk's international presence is said to have been the bait which lured Francis Currie away from the Wilson Sonsini where he has been a partner since 1984.
For the last six months he has been helping to set up a London office for the Silicon Valley outfit.
That plan will now go ahead without him.
No one at Wilson Sonsini was available for comment, however named partner Larry Sonsini is reportedly "shocked and surprised" following Currie's defection.
Currie's task as partner in his new firm will be to get Davis Polk's new Silicon Valley office off the ground.
Davis Polk is one of a number of New York law firms setting up shop in the Silicon Valley. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett is in the process of relocating 16 New York lawyers, four of them partners, to the region, while Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom opened an office in Palo Alto last year.
