Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati landed instruction on the landmark acquisition of YouTube by Google for $1.65bn (£880m).Doubt surrounded which side the firm would choose to fall on, given that both YouTube and Google are longstanding Wilson Sonsini clients. Most signifcantly, Wilson Sonsini represented Google on its $2.7bn (£1.44bn) IPO two years ago. This time, rather than act for the behemoth, the firm decided to plump for the underdog and is representing video-sharing website YouTube. Corporate partners Michael Ringler and John Sheridan are leading the team. Palo Alto partner Cathy Kirkman is advising on the IP aspects. That left Google looking around. Simpson Thacher & Barlett was the firm lucky enough to win Google’s affections, with Palo Alto-based corporate partners Richard Capelouto and Kirsten Jensen leading.
