West Coast technology giant Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati has announced that it is to lay off a number of associates and around 100 support staff over the next two weeks
Although the firm has not yet decided on a specific number of associate cuts, it looks to be around the 10 per cent mark - about 60 lawyers. Most are expected to hit those in venture capital financing and initial public offerings. During the technology boom of 2000, the number of associates reached the 700 mark. That has slowly been reduced by around 25 per cent over the last two years. Wilson Sonsini is just one of a number of West Coast firms to have made cuts in response to the technology slowdown, with intellectual property specialist Lyon & Lyon announcing its closure at the end of this month. However, last week the firm increased its partner count by two, with the hire of two partners from rival West Coast technology firm Venture Law Group.
