Washington DC firm Wilmer Cutler & Pickering is losing the head of its Latin American practice to become prime minister of the Republic of Peru.
Roberto Dañino resigned from the firm after his appointment by the country's incoming president Alejandro Toledo. He led the firm's Latin American practice since 1996, and recently chaired the Inter-American Development Bank's external review group for private sector operations. Before joining the firm he was general counsel at the Inter-American Investment Corporation. He held posts in the Peru government in the 1980s, including secretary general of the Ministry of Economy Finance and Trade, president of the Foreign Investment and Technology Agency, and chairman of the Foreign Public Debt Commission.
