William Blair named president on Board of Appeal of ESA’s

William Blair has been named president of the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs), the body responsible for ruling on challenges against the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Insurance Occupational and Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Blair, the brother of former UK prime minister Tony Blair, joined the Queen’s Bench Division in 2003 from 3 Verulam Buildings where he took silk in 1994. He is appointed alongside ESA’s newly elected vice president Juan Fernández-Armesto, the former chairman of the Spanish Securities and Exchange Commission.

The terms of both the president and vice-president is five years with the possibility to be extended once.
