The Lawyer Global Litigation Top 50 report is the only ranking of international law firms by litigation and arbitration revenue and is essential reading for anyone seeking to benchmark their litigation and dispute resolution practices...
This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
High flying Wilberforce Chambers barrister Anna Carboni is to leave the set to join IP boutique Powell Gilbert.
Until 2003 Carboni (pictured) headed Linklaters’ IP practice, but quit the firm to develop her advocacy skills at the bar, re-qualifying as a barrister at that time (7 April 2003).
“At Links I was getting bogged down in management while my colleagues were working on cases,” Carboni said. “The bar was brilliant for letting me develop advocacy skills and getting back into the law.”
However, Carboni said the bar became a “lonely existence” and that she wanted to get back into a team-working environment.
“I just decided it suits me better to be in a team,” she said. “I also hope to be doing advocacy on my own cases.”
Powell Gilbert was launched in March 2007 by five partners who broke away from Bristows (6 March 2007). Since then the firm has tripled in size and is home to 25 fee earners.
“The aspiration is to be the top firm for IP litigation and advice, be independent, UK based and keep good relationships with overseas firms,” Carboni said.
Founding partner Simon Ayrton said Carboni’s appointment was a “great accolade for the firm’s achievements so far”.
He added: “She brings enormous talent and experience to drive the continued expansion of our trade mark and soft IP dispute resolution practice.”
Last year Powell Gilbert hired Nokia’s former head of IP Ari Laakkonen. He joined from the London office of Bird & Bird, where he spent a year as senior counsel (7 January 2009).
Carboni will join the firm as a partner in October after leaving Wilberforce at the end of May.
