DLA Piper is a top law firm. They are the role model for all firms wishing to expand. They cherry picked the best merger partners in the early 2000s. They then worked on improving their culture / expertise so that they could gatecrash the Magic Circle. DWF is a growing firm. They’ve been the most exciting law firm of the last 3 years, but their ascent has been far from perfect. For instance, appointing John Flynn as head of the Newcastle office is probably the worst lateral hire of the decade. Sir Nigel would never have made such a basic error.
