This overhaul of Coventry's social housing stock takes the value of projects launched under the new project partnering contract PPC 2000 to more than £1bn. The contract was devised by Trowers & Hamlins partner David Mosey and marks a dramatic break with previous practice. Most significantly, the contract covers the entire procurement process and is a multi-party document. PPC 2000 has already been trialled in a number of housing and schools programmes, but this latest deal, in which the Whitefriars Housing Group was created to take on 20,000 homes, is the biggest so far to use the new form of contract. The partnering framework is aimed at ending the adversarial atmosphere, contractual disputes and cost overruns that frequently plague construction projects and is based on the recommendations of the Government's Construction Task Force Report chaired by John Egan. The contract is already being used by other law firms.
