The senior environmental adviser at the White House has stepped down from her government post to join US firm Holland & Knight.
Beth Viola served in the White House since 1994 offering advice on environmental issues to President Bill Clinton and Vice-President Al Gore.
When she joins the Washington office of the 216-partner firm she will become a senior adviser for public affairs.
Richard Gold, head of the firm's federal public law group, says: "Ms Viola is bringing new skills to the table for us, including her significant knowledge of policy issue at the federal level which is a perfect complement to the firm's existing government relations practice.
"Her focus will be on technology, environment and appropriations issues. She will assist clients with legislative advocacy and grass roots campaign strategies."
Prior to joining the White House staff, Viola worked on government affairs at Matushita Electric Corporation of America.
