White & Bowker dumps criminal team ahead of merger

Hampshire firm White & Bowker will abandon its criminal defence practice when it merges with Blake Lapthorn Linnell on 1 May.

Niall Brook, managing partner atchairman of White & Bowker, told The Lawyer: “The decision is not strictly linked to the merger. It was a pre-merger consideration and part of a strategic discussion.”

Brook said the firm would concentrate on financially-related private client work, property and dispute resolution in the future.

White & Bowker’s criminal defence team consists of two partners; Stephen Piercy in the Chandler’s Ford office and Bob Penfold in Winchester. Neither could be reached for comment.
