Clifford Chance Pünder has lost highly-rated Düsseldorf energy partner Manfred Ungemach and a small team of associates to White & Case.
Ungemach, who is a corporate lawyer operating in the energy sector, will take three senior associates with him to White & Case. At Clifford Chance, Ungemach covered the full range of energy advice, including M&A, antitrust, energy trading and commercial law.
White & Case is trying to build up its corporate energy practice across Europe. Earlier this month, the firm hired two partners from Canadian firm McCarthy Tétrault. The new partners Glen Ireland and Tanneke Heersche will advise both European and African energy clients.
Ungemach’s departure is a blow to Clifford Chance Pünder, which is looking increasingly troubled in Germany. The firm has recently lost several rated German partners: insolvency partner Volker Kammel went to Jones Day; corporate finance partner Philipp von Ilberg to Dewey Ballantine; and corporate partner Wolfgang Hess to Simmons & Simmons.
