White & Case sends London partner to head Singapore arbitration practice

Partner Aloke Ray, who has moved from the firm’s London office, will head the practice. Ray has particular experience in energy, metals, construction, telecoms, and India-related issues.

“Across the Asia region as a whole, arbitration remains the preferred approach to resolve disputes, particularly those of a cross-border nature,” said Ray.

Also joining the practice at partner level is Nandakumar Ponniya, a former lawyer at Singapore firm Rajah & Tann. Associates Matthew Shaw, from White & Case’s London office, and Dian Chen, who joins from Tan Kok Quan Partnership in Singapore, will make up the rest of the practice. 

“Launching an international arbitration practice reflects our belief in the growing importance of Singapore as an arbitration centre for disputes involving South East Asia and India, and our commitment to building a full-service practice in Singapore,” said Doug Peel, White & Case’s Singapore office executive partner. 

White & Case’s international arbitration practice in Asia is now comprised of 20 disputes lawyers. The firm established it’s Singapore office in 1983.
