White & Case has poached a five lawyer team from Haarmann Hemmelrath to launch its new Munich office.
The US firm has hired former Haarmann Hemmelrath equity partner and public law specialist Christoph von Einem along with IP/IT partner Tobias Freiherr von Tucher and employment specialist Björn Theis and associate Ines Buermeyer, as first reported on German legal website Juve.
The team is one of the key players in the Munich private equity and venture capital market.
The remaining lawyers for the new office will come from White & Case’s existing Dresden and Hamburg offices. These include partners Ulrich Jork and Martin Bernd Heidrich and associate Oliver Klerx. The new office is due to open in 2006.
The Bavarian capital has attracted a lot of attention from US firms in recent years with Kirkland & Ellis, Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom all moving to Munich.
The raid is another blow for Haarmann Hemmelrath’s Munich office which has lost a stream of lawyers since the summer.
