White & Case makes up six City partners in 33-strong round

White & Case London has received three times as many partners in this year’s promotions round when compared to last year.

Six new partners have been made up in the firm’s City office this year. Last year the number was two.

The US firm made up two in project finance and one each in restructuring, finance, employment and litigation in London. In total White & Case added 33 to the partnership across its international network.

Last year the two London promotions were among 21 that were made up globally. London head Oliver Brettle said this year’s promotions signify increased confidence in market conditions.

Brettle said: “Last year was very challenging for all firms and the economic condition was very bleak indeed. It was therefore important for us to be cautious. This year there’s an improvement and promotions have returned to around normal levels.”

In 2007 The Lawyerreported that White & Case added a total of 10 to its partnership in London. The firm made up a total of 31 in that round.

Last week Weil Gotshal & Manges and Latham & Watkins both announced promotions. Latham added a total of 23 globally and two in the City (30 November 2009) while Weil promoted three across its network and one in London (1 December 2009).
