White & Case London chief wins seat on global board

White & Case London head Oliver Brettle has been appointed to the firm’s executive committee, replacing New York partner Dimitrios Drivas.

Brettle (pictured) takes up his post on the committee after being appointed London head in December last year.

Brettle joins Turkish partner Asli Basgoz and New York partner Anthony Kahn on the committee that works under firmwide chairman Hugh Verrier.

Brettle said: “My main responsibility will be to look after the people aspect of the firm. This means connecting the offices around the network.”

White & Case has come under fire in recent years for neglecting to represent London on its global management committee.

Brettle said: “My appointment is not viewed in that context. We’re all in one partnership. We do not need to view the firm in terms of separate offices.”

White & Case overhauled its management structure last December, at which point it appointed a number of regional and practice group heads across the firm (3 December 2008).
