US firm White & Case is taking on the former deputy general counsel of the World Bank as a member of its Middle East practice group.
Daoud Khairallah is joining as of counsel in the firm's Washington DC office - advising clients that include financial institutions, governments and companies.
Khairallah says: "When I left the World Bank I was thinking of focusing a bit more on the Middle East. There is potential there that has not been fully developed. I have a global interest in legal practice and I was looking for a firm with a global outlook."
White & Case has three offices in the Middle East - two in Saudi Arabia and one in Bahrain - but Khairallah believes that there is room for the firm to develop the market more.
His main areas of practice are project finance, equity investments, corporate governance, privatisation and international dispute resolution - all of which he says are booming in the Middle East.
As well as working on international deals Khairallah will advise clients on initiatives to combat corruption in international business transactions.
