The Tokyo office of Latham & Watkins has taken on corporate partner Michael Yoshii from US rival White & Case in a rare example of a Japanese lateral hire
Yoshii, who has been a foreign law partner in White & Case's Tokyo office since 1999, joins a developing Latham corporate practice. He will become the third partner in Latham's Tokyo office, which has grown from two to nine lawyers since October 2000. Managing partner of Latham's Toyko office David Shapiro said: "Mike's been a leader in M&A in Japan and has pioneered the introduction into Japan of legal concepts underlying Silicon Valley-style venture capital and technology transactions."
