There are 162 days to go until the London 2012 Olympics. And to mark that random milestone Lawyer2B has made like Usain Bolt and done a sprint around the UK top 20 law firms to see how much havoc the Games have already wreaked on graduate recruitment timetables.
It is feared that disruption to transport and accommodation caused by the Games might not only cause logistical problems for students, but could have an effect on staff levels and overall focus, and in turn negatively impact on the type of work students are exposed to.
Of the magic circle, Linklaters and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer have altered the structure of their vacation schemes, Clifford Chance and Allen & Overy are still considering the Games’ potential impact, while Slaughter and May will make a decision in the next few weeks (only 162 days to go guys!).
Elsewhere, Eversheds, Irwin Mitchell and SJ Berwin are reviewing the dates of their assessment centres or training contract interviews. Bird & Bird, CMS Cameron McKenna and Norton Rose have confirmed that they are planning to move their assessment days.
Irwin Mitchell and SJ Berwin have also moved their vacations schemes, along with Ashurst and Berwin Leighton Paisner.
We already knew that Hogan Lovells and Herbert Smith were altering their schemes (21 July 2011).
With only 162 days to go, it will soon be only 161 days to go - you heard it here first.
