West Coast rot continues as Skjerven Morrill dissolves

Another technology specialist from the San Francisco Bay Area has followed the example of Brobeck Phleger & Harrison and closed its doors. Partners at Skjerven Morrill voted to dissolve the firm on Friday 31 January and announced the decision to staff on Monday.
Like Brobeck, the 58-lawyer firm was saddled with large debts, lease obligations and failed in its attempts to woo a merger partner. The firm is known to have approached Pillsbury Winthrop.
Skjerven becomes the latest in a string of Bay Area IP boutiques to fold. Since 2000, Lyon & Lyon, Limbach & Limbach, and Majestic Parsons Siebert & Hsue have also closed. Another IP firm, Flehr Hohbach Test Albritton & Herbert, merged with Minneapolis-based Dorsey & Whitney in 2002.
