Weil Gotshal & Manges is keen to position itself as king of the US firms in London, and what better way to do this than chip away at its rivals' partnerships?
Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, Kirkland & Ellis and O'Melveny & Myers are all on Weil's hitlist, with the firm taking one partner from each. At Cadwalader, restructuring partner Tony Horspool, who has already resigned from the partnership, is about to make the move. He will be joined by Kirkland restructuring and litigation partner Richard East and O'Melveny corporate finance partner Stuart Hills. With no lateral hires since the 2005 capture of Lovells private equity star Marco Compagnoni, Weil recruits now appear to be like buses, as it were.
With domination only a few hires away, where will Weil strike next? Shearman & Sterling? McDermott Will & Emery?
